For Minoru Hatta, Rexfab’s Technical Writer, clear documentation starts with understanding the equipment and the people who use it. In this interview, he shares how collaboration, engineering knowledge, and a focus on safety help him create practical resources for our customers.

Minoru Hatta

1. Thank you, Minoru, for the interview. Minoru Hatta, what is your position?

I am a technical writer.

2. And what is your job?

My job is to produce the information our clients and colleagues need to understand our equipment and related processes better. For instance, a client initially needs to understand the product they have purchased from us and know how to safely install, adjust, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot it. To meet this need, I create documentation such as manuals, guides, charts, and images.

Clients may also need training, quick-reference guides, or quizzes, and I provide these upon request. As for my colleagues, I help create documents that standardize our definitions and processes, such as data sheets and process charts. Teams that benefit from this work include sales, design, assembly, and service.

I also generate spare-parts documentation and assist the sales team in drafting proposals.

“Let’s not forget that manuals and other documents are the result of teamwork.”

3. What are the main aggregate values the client derives from your work?

First, I am fortunate to have knowledgeable, generous colleagues who share the information I need to pass on to the documentation’s users.

Let’s not forget that manuals and other documents are the result of teamwork. I write the text and generate the images. Still, the information must come from the experts—the designers, programmers, assemblers, installers, packers, business partners, OEMs, and, in some cases, even the machine operators.

I hold a degree in mechanical engineering; this background helps me understand how our equipment works and lets me simplify the information so I can convey it clearly and concisely to readers. Furthermore, since I generate the images, I can capture the precise views needed to illustrate the explanations effectively.

4. Could you give an example of things the client considers valuable—things you know the client will find particularly valuable?

One aspect I consider highly valuable for clients is prioritizing safety; I always emphasize safety in the manuals I produce. I also take documentation seriously, which drives me to provide the best possible information to both internal and external clients.

Another key point for the client is that the results of my collaboration with colleagues are reflected in the information I generate.

Finally, we are always open to listening to the client’s needs. If a client has a specific requirement, we can work together to reach a mutually beneficial solution—such as creating a customized training program for a factory with high operator turnover.

“I hold a degree in mechanical engineering; this background helps me understand how our equipment works and lets me simplify the information so I can convey it clearly and concisely to readers.”

5. What have customers said in the comments about your experience? What have they said they find particularly different about the work you do?

Normally, I don’t work directly with our clients, but I still received some positive feedback. Some said they really liked the documentation because it was attractive, clear, and comprehensive.

Others were pleased that the manual included the information they needed. And, of course, some also suggested adding certain details.

“Rexfab has grown—and continues to grow—over the years, yet we haven’t lost that quality typical of smaller companies: a deep commitment to taking good care of our clients.”

6. And what do your colleagues who are in contact with customers use to facilitate sales?

Colleagues who work directly with the client have told me the documentation helped them understand the machine, train operators, or point the client to the information they needed; sometimes, they even use the images in their own documentation. On the other hand, whenever they can’t find specific information and let me know, I make sure to include it and revise the document promptly.

7. Very good, very interesting, Mino. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Well, I’ll wrap up by saying I love what I do, and I also love working for Rexfab because the company maintains close relationships with its clients and values each one, regardless of size. Rexfab has grown—and continues to grow—over the years, yet we haven’t lost that quality typical of smaller companies: a deep commitment to taking good care of our clients. I believe that is a tremendous asset, and I hope we never lose it.

Very good, Mino. Thank you very much.
